Not long ago I’ve written an entry about my favorite Tamales. During my travels in Guatemala I’ve run into the Guatemalan version of it, the Chuchito.
Chucho means street dog in Spanish, so a chuchito is a little street puppy. The same corn mass, but this time it’s wrapped in maxan leaves and flavored with chipilin. Served a little differently than in Mexico, here after wrapping them out they fry it a little bit, the same way they do it with tortillas and almost everything – on hot stones or steel. Then served with beans and sometimes avocadoes.
